The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005)

Blah movie that looked really good in the previews until you watch it and realize its not a movie about Emily Rose, its about the court case surrounding her "Exorcism". Total let down, not scary, the scenes from the previews that made it look scary were actually longer in the previews than in the movie.

Wait til its on cable to watch it and save the rental fee.

Johnson Family Vacation (2004)

Johnson Family Vacation (2004)

Its a toss up between this and Diary of an Angry Black Woman for worst African American movie I have seen in the past month. It was bad.

I dont know if maybe it would have been funny back in the late 70's/Early 80's when this type of humor was popular. But its even bad for a movie starring Lil Bow Wow and Cedric the Entertainer.

about 5 minutes of watching it and that was enought for me.

Legally Blonde (2001)

Legally Blonde (2001)

A guilty pleasure movie. Reese looks hot and the story line is very simple with a lot of humor. Even when the movie is taking a break from the humor it is still able to hold your attention, probably why law based shows and movies have been around forever.

Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Reese Witherspoon all make this movie a mix of the underdog and funny movie.

Makes me wonder how many cases could use a little more experts in some areas other than law. When a staunch lawyer type walks into a strip club or a spa how many details can be missed just because it is not an area of comfort or expertise for them.

As good as I remember it being. As genetic engineering and gene therapy move to the forefront of medical ethics discussions. It is good to see what could happen in a world where children are engineered to live as long as possible and all imperfections are removed.

Uma, Jude Law and Ethan Hawke all have great performances as we take a look at a very possible future.

Fade to Black (2004)

Fade to Black (2004)

Really interesting look at the making of Jay-Z's Black album and his final concert at Madison Square Garden. The part I found most interesting was the repeated mention that this was the first time that a solo rpa artist was playing MSG. I guess in the modern world where the Billboard charts and MTV are flooded with rap artists, I would never have guessed that this was considered a the pinnacle of rap, and a pinnacle no rapper had yet reached.

The parts where songs are just made from a beat is incredible. It's amazing to think that this guy can write rhymes in his head in a matter of minutes.

The producers are awesome: Pharrell and the Neptunes, Timbaland, Rick Rubin, and Kanye West (Who at that time was relatively unknown). Seeing Rick Rubin standing in the recording studios in his ecclectic home with Mike D as JAy-Z records is eye-opening. To think that when I was a kid the only main stream rap was coming from Mike D and the Beastie Boys and now its everywhere and only Eminem has been able to break into and maintain any stature in the rap community.

Very good movie, makes me wish I had gotten a chance to see Jay-Z before he retired.

Television Preview ®

Welcome to Television Preview ®

So 4 tickets come in the mail to a television preview. Cool huh!?! Not really after wastign 2+ hours of my life in the conference room of a hotel watching what could not really be called a preview.

So Heather, Jessie, Mike and myself meet at the Great Dane across the street for dinner and then head up/over to this Preview thing, which is up near East Towne mall. When we get there we see this huge long line and think it might not be that bad. Then the emcee for the evening gets on a mic and starts to give sort of an overview of the program. We will watch two different shows and some commercials and then comment on them. There will be prize drawings as well (in acorance with the $250 in prizes promised on the website.

So they are really trying to get a certain demographic and that demographic was 20+. So we sat down and then waited as agroup of Madison's Finest Lesbians came strollign in holding upt he group of course. The first thing we then did was fill out our info to be eligible for prizes. Then we had a booklet of like 20 different product groupings and each page forced us to pick one iitem. So going through soda, chips, razors...pickingmy favorites...then we get to lipstick and Fiber and just circle whatever one I had heard of. We will return to this process a little later.

The first television show was based off of the KEnneth Brannaugh movie Dead Again...a crappy story about past lives. What we saw was a completely absurd 2 hour story beign told in 45 minutes, everything suffered because of it. The acting was decent as was the filming, the plot was weak and everything was noticably underdeveloped.

Lights on filled out some questions about the characters/actors and then it was time for the last show...The City

The show was kind of funny/amusing...sorta like News Radio if it was about running a city instead od a newspaper. Heavily Accented Mexican Woman, Anal Retentive white guy, fat pompous money hungry dputy mayor, sassy black secretary, and bumbling security guard...Some parts were funny some were not...sorta like watching Becker or one of those other TV shows I avoid watching at all costs.

Reviewed that movie and then we retook that survey to see if tha ads and product placement had swayed our opinions. I of course just screwed around on my desk.

Not sure if they use the previews or the consumer input but it was a huge long ordeal and I wish I could get eyes.

Elektra (2005)

Elektra (2005)

Comic Book Movie's that shouldnt have been made take 20. It was bad, the movie was watchable because Jennifer Garner in less clothes equals better. Other than that the strongest part of the movie was the coolness of the bad guys.

Watched the movie while playing CoH on the computer, and the focus never really drifted towards the movie. I did like seeing Doctor Kovajk from ER, other than that the movie centered WAY too damn much around the little girl, Abby Miller (Kristen Prout). I will actually firmly state that Daredevil was actually a better movie than this was.

Daredevil vs. Elektra's Villains and you would have yourself a truly DECENT movie to watch.

With movies such as Man-Thing in video and Fantastic Four comign to theaters this weekend its no wonder people are able to make damn near any comic book into a movie hoping for the next X-Men/Spiderman.

13 Seconds (2003) (V)

13 Seconds (2003) (V)

OK so since Hide and Seek was such a disappointment I had to rent another scary movie...well long story short some slow people starting at the end of the alphabet forced us over to the beginning where we found a scary looking box with a man with a pnetagram on his throat...which was never in the movie. The case also showed awards that were won at several non-Cannes/Sundance film festivals. Well this peeked our interests and got the rental.

Within 10 minutes of watching the film we were ready to turn it off. I would describe the movie as a High School Horror Film with some college level "special" (as in olympics) effects. The acting and dialogue was like watching kindergarden students struggle through reading aloud for the first time. The plot was ludicrous and the surprise ending was perhaps even more absurd. It was amazing to see camera shots that looked like they were taken on a camcorder filling the time. At no point in the entire movie do I remember there beign a wide shot. Sadly they failed to make the house creepy, the bad guys scary or the characters likeable or recognizable.

I applaud the people at Blockbuster for picking up and stocking this little independent gem, but the movie truly has no place near movies as terrible as Blade Trinity and Along Came Polly, it's just that bad.

Whats that old saying, "You can't judge a book by its cover" well you cant judge a DVD by its cover either.

Hide and Seek (2005)

Hide and Seek (2005)

It was painfully predicatable. If you have ever watched a movie even the slightest bit similar you would be able to guess the "Plot Twist" almost instantly.

The worst part though was watching everything that transpired after that "twist" had the movie just twisted and then had Mini-Me come in with a chainsaw it would have made for a better watchign experience. The DVD came with 4 Alternate endings...a couple of which would have made the film better, but most that were terrible and one that would have made blooper reels.

Strike that the worst part was listening to the directors comentary on the Alternate Endings. It was like listening to a couple of idiots describe the intricate differences between Periwinkle and Carolina Blue...we can see that they are different and perhaps in certain situations one is better than the other, but in no way does it merit a long discussion of how clever you are for offering two colors.

Dakota Fanning was fantastic as always...If she doesnt get ugly ala Macauley Caulkin we could see this girl in movies for like 60+ years.

Robert DeNiro once again proved that your talent as an actor in no way keeps you away from the really terrible scripts.

This movie was what it was. People that barely pay attention to movies might like it, those that do pay attention will probably find it confusing.

A Real Transformer

And here I thought my Martha's Stewarts Bitch and Super Mario were good costumes.

Country of My Skull (2004)

Country of My Skull (2004)

An interesting look at South African history. Its inetesting after all these years that people are finally taking a alook at African history. Perhaps my 11th grade english teacher was on to something. Its amazing to see how an "Afrikaner" a white from South Africa, can love the country and people she is from so much that she hopes that the autrocities of her people can be forgotten and forgiven in an effort to enhacne the country. Where as Samuel L. Jackson plays an "American" Reporter. This comment doesn't go over well with him as he claims to be an "African American"...raising the question in the movie...Who is more African? On one hand you have a born and raised south african of European descent and the other is an African American who has never lived a day of his life in Africa. Samuel L. draws from the pain of slavery and racism in the United States to draw his pain, but who's opinion is more valid.

Julliette Binoche plays the Afrikaner (Anna Malan) that sympathizes greatly with the strife of her countrymen. Her sound clips and reports evoke great emotion from the natives of her country as she shares the raw pain, emotion and sadness of the people. A people looking only for closure on the terrible things that had happened over the past 100 years.

Samuel L. Jackson plays the American reporter Langston Whitfield. The sensationalist reporting of Whitfield causes a rift between the two reporters, a rift that could only apparently be solved by sleeping together in one of the weakest parts of the movie. However its redeemed as the viewer is allowed to grow with Samuel L. Jackson from blaming and figer pointing and a story of genocide, into a story of a nation healing and people just trying to unify the country.

Real Transformers?

Coolest thing I have seen, even if it is fake as all get out, I would like to think that at some point all of the things of fiction in animated cartoon series would come true someday, though I have no idea why a robotic humanoid form would have any advantages over some other form.

Cursed (2005)

Cursed (2005)

I liked Dawso's Creek and Scream, everything else that Kevin Williamson has touched has turned to crap. Its what he writes, teen based pseudo-horror not thrillers.

I do however like Judy Greer, she is quite possibly the only decent thing in this movie.

Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005)

Diary of a Mad Black Woman (2005)

This movie is garbage, this is what happens when they take an episode of a new UPN TV show and try to stretch it into a movie. Then after stretching it realize that no one is going to want to see a drawn out dating story...so what to do? I know take a guy in drag and add some comedic relief to a romance/heartbreak/personal growth movie. Makes perfect sense to me.

The Bad News Bears (1976)

The Bad News Bears (1976)

I guess this movie is considered one of the great 70's comedies. After watching it I dont know why. The comedy in this movie comes mostly from Tanner spouting off racist/anti-semitic comments. The Lupus stuff isnt really as funny as I thought it to be and in the PC Generation Y'er world I live in Walter MAtheau's character looks more like a candidate for Jail time or a seat on the Ricki Lake show than anything.

Primer (2004)

Primer (2004)

The parts of the movie I understood were really great. As an engineer, the work at the beginning and some of the nerd speak was particulairly interesting. But some of the movie was REALLY confusing. I had no idea what the hell was going on, when it was, where it was, who it was....this movie definitely forced you to ask the 5 W's every ten seconds or so. There are some points where you feel like it might be best to turn it off and give your brain a break. However, the movie maintains an incredible watchability throughout. Typical "indie" camera work and film quality make you feel like you are watching something being created in front of you...also mirrors the lives of people who's passions and interests lie outside of their job as they struggle to balance the time of pursuing their ideas and getting paid.

September Tapes (2004)

September Tapes (2004)

An awesome raw look at what its like to be on the trail of Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan. It was a real eye-opening movie. Night vision camera work and camera's being carried around at odd angles as people travlled and avoided conflict. The subtitles for the Fharce(sp?) speakers was ridiculous, using Arial Narrow and a yellow/orange color made it almost unreadable.

City of Heroes Official Forums#3022340: "What is a test server?

Its your chance to preview upcoming changes and updates and provide feedback to the developers.

The test server is set up specifically for the testing of updates *before* they are incorporated into the game itself. Players can login, preview/test the planned new features, fixes, changes, tweaks and offer up bug reports or suggestions.

How does a test server differ from a live server?

Due to the nature and purpose of a test server, the operative word to keep in mind is temporary.

Content and characters could be wiped at anytime as game specific updates and changes are published, tested and removed.

Players can expect lower levels of support, since the bulk of this service is centered around our live servers.

Normal bug reporting and petitions will be handled a bit differently, as all issues need to be given more time for in-depth study, review and reproduction.

Heres how to install the test server client:

1. Locate the CohUpdater.exe file. If you installed the game from the retail cd, this will be in the game directory, which is C:\Program Files\City of Heroes by default.

2. Create a shortcut to this file.

3. Open the Properties for the newly created shortcut. In the Target window, add the following flag to the end of the line:

5. Run this shortcut.

The first time you run the shortcut, you will be asked if you want to install the test client to the default directory. Choose Yes if you want to install it there, or choose No if you want to choose a different directory. It is recommended that you ins"
